“OLD NEW ZEALAND beat New Zealand in local elections, figuratively and literally.” That is the contention of The Daily Blog’s Martyn Bradbury. He has a point. New Zealand’s city and district councils, with a handful of exceptions, are dominated by Baby Boomer politicians elected on a flood tide of Baby Boomer votes. But this skewed generational outcome is not, as Bradbury insinuates, the product of some dark Boomer conspiracy. The explanation is much simpler and scarier than that.
