Hah! An NZPR subscriber! You are a member, Mel, of a small but noble band.
And you're right, trying to keep up with the shifting allegiances of the times we are living through makes keeping up with the war between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines a piece of cake!
I used to subscribe to the Political Review. Simpler days, we knew where people stood or fell.
The Red Flags have taken the White House. A US property developer is trying to sell Ukraine to the Russians and get invited to Putins Christmas party.
A 1981 Red Flag now means you are a enemy of the USA and Russia and a friend of Boris Johnson so it's more likely there's a knighthood in the mail for you. Weird scenes from the goldmine indeed.
I suspect not removing the "Red Flag" was an oversight from way back, but one would have thought scrolling through Substack to find National security threats might mean there are too many employed at the NZSI service with not much to do. Maybe a cull is necessary. Likewise the key words politics and history are a wide area for an algorithm when doing the scrolling or actioning a red flag. One wonders who are the faceless people who decide how these searches are designed, and what are their politics and history, and how are they vetted. Many questions, but an interesting and entertaing essay Chris.

Chris
Moving to substack is a good move, one that provides the opportunity for paid support. A labourer is always worthy of his hire.
It evokes how Nelson Mandela wasn't taken off US terrorist watchlists until 2008.
